Wind’s Direction – Tuulen suunta
In hot weather, when the sun is blazing during the day, it is refreshing to experience the cool breeze of a summer evening.
The weather forecast tells us which direction the wind is blowing from and whether it is light, moderate, strong, or even stormy. After all, you can prepare for the weather.
Sometimes in life you encounter things that you are not prepared for. Sometimes they seem as pleasant as a cool breeze on a summer evening. Other times, you may have to face something unexpected that surprises you—like stormy weather.
In the Bible, the word wind (Greek pneuma) means not only weather and cool air, but also spirit. God’s Holy Spirit blows and creates new life in a person’s heart:
“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” (John 3:8)
At Emmaus, we are in the middle of the same challenges as many aging congregations. We also have good opportunities to move forward together. The church property has value that the congregation can make use of.
As a congregation, we are not dependent on the weather, but on God, who “presides over the seasons” (Hymns 462:2). Christ is the rock and the church’s only solid foundation (Matthew 16:18). We can rely on Him for confidence and hope for the future.
Autumn brings with it not only changes in the weather but also the opening of the congregation’s Fall season and the choir’s wonderful songs on September 14. At the end of October, we’ll once again have Mukula Messu. The new Confirmation school group will begin in November. Then comes the bazaar and soon Christmas is at the doorstep.
Until then, a warm welcome to our services and all our events!
Blessings,
Pastor Timo
